Monterey Public Library

In honor of National Library Week (April 9 – 15) this week we’re featuring libraries we’ve encountered in our travels.

Our first stop is the first public library in California – the Monterey Public Library. Established in 1849, the Monterey Public Library started out as a shareholders library with the first members paying $32 a share to establish the library.   Today it is a busy, vibrant place open to all and the largest public library on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula.
